GUM CARE & TEETH WHITENING

What Is Teeth Cleaning ?
Dental health is an important part of your general health. Whatever your age, you should have healthy teeth. Good dental care can help you keep your teeth healthy for a lifetime. The teeth cleaning is known as scaling. Scaling is one such procedure that keeps your gums healthy and firm. It is a procedure used to remove infected deposits like plaque, calculus and stains from the tooth surfaces. Such deposits, if not removed by scaling, it may cause infection and loosening of the gums, ultimately leading to tooth loss. Scaling is a safe and routine procedure and does not damage the tooth surface in any way.
Why Scaling Is Done ?
Scaling is done to remove calculus (or) tartar that may develop even with careful brushing and flossing. Scaling is a common non-surgical treatment for removal of infected deposits – tartar or calculus, from the tooth surface. These deposits if not removed, it may lead to development of periodontal disease. In periodontal disease, the pocket between the tooth and gum begins to deepen. This provides an environment for anaerobic bacteria to grow. The bacteria begin to multiply rapidly and infect more of the gum and start dissolving the bone supporting the tooth. This process will progressively result in tooth loss. In order to avoid this destructive process, tooth scaling is done initially to maintain the health of periodontal tissues.
How Scaling Is Done ?
Scaling is usually done with the help of ultrasonic scalers. These scalers are designed with a hand piece to which a variety of tips can be attached depending on the need. The tip of the device vibrates at a very fast rate and removes the tartar and stains from the outer surface of the tooth.
Does Scaling Damage My Teeth ?
Many people commonly think that doing scaling will damage their teeth and usually they don’t prefer to do scaling. This kind of thoughts is completely a myth. Actually scaling improves the health of your periodontal tissues and prolongs the efficiency of your tooth.
How Frequently Scaling Should Be Done?
Plaque formation on the teeth is a continuous process. If this is not removed by brushing it starts mineralizing into tartar within 10-14 hours. The frequency of calculus formation varies from person to person. So, the golden rule is to have a routine dental check up every 6 months.
What Is Root Planning ?
Root planning is part of Gum care treatment .It is mostly done in patients with chronic periodontal problems. During the procedure, a dentist cleans deep below the gums to remove plaque and tartar build-ups on the roots of teeth where the bones are affected by the infection. Planning involves the complete removal of cementum, which is the calcified film that covers a tooth’s root.
Is Root Planning Painful ?
No, you will not feel any pain during a deep cleaning of Laser gum treatment because a local anaesthetic will be administered before the procedure begins. We are also equipped with worlds most successful and advanced wand system which is a computer controlled painless anaesthesia system.
What Is Periodontal Flap Surgery ?
Periodontal flap surgery is a procedure that treats and repairs periodontal pockets. Periodontal pockets are deep spaces below your gum line that form when gum tissue detaches from your teeth. These pockets cannot be cleaned with a normal toothbrush. Periodontal pockets creates a room for harmful bacteria to grow quickly. In these conditions flap surgeries are performed to eliminate the further development of pocket formation and to hinder the microbial activities in the surrounding periodontal tissues.
What Is Frenectomy ?
Frenectomy is a simple surgical procedure to remove a frenum from the mouth when it is too tight or short and limits movement in the mouth. These frenums have no distinct purpose and removing those causes no loss of function.
What Is Gum Contouring ?
Gum contouring is usually done in patients with excessive gingival display. In Cosmetic dentistry procedure the excessive gum tissue is removed and the gums are reshaped to provide a good-looking gum line. It can also be done in case of gingival recession conditions. It is totally an elective procedure and usually completed in one or two visits.
Teeth Whitening ?
In this modern era, everyone are highly cautious about the looks and also the shade of their teeth. People wishes to have their teeth like a shining sparkle. Teeth whitening procedures are the most commonly performed ones among the other Cosmetic dentistry procedures . It is recommended in patients who have inherited tooth stains or may be done in people who wish to have a brighter appearance of their teeth. In this method, certain bleaching agents are used which helps to remove the stains present in the tooth and gives a whiter appearance.
Gum De-Pigmentation:
In wide range of groups the usual colour of gums or gingiva is coral pink. But in some individuals the colour of gums may appear darker than usual. It is due to excessive production of melanin in the underlying gingival tissues which causes the gums to appear black of brown instead of pink. The darker gums are completely normal and do not indicate any disease or dysfunction. People usually seek treatment for aesthetic concern to lighten the colour of their gums. The process by which the gums can be lightened is called gum depigmentation or gum bleaching. Mostly it is done with laser technology. Laser gum depigmentation vaporizes and removes a thin top layer of the gum tissue, destroying the melanin producing cells. During healing period a new tissue formation occurs which tends to appear pink rather than the previous brown or black colour. The treatment may require a local anaesthetic injection and has a short recovery time with manageable discomfort. Sometimes, depending upon the colour and depth of the dark patch, it could take several sessions to achieve the desired degree of lightening.
Dental Bone Graft
A dental bone graft is necessary when bone loss has occurred in your jaw. There are a couple of reasons why this may occur. When your natural teeth are present, the roots stimulate the nerves in your jaw. This signals your brain to send nutrients to your jaw, keeping it strong and healthy. If a tooth has been missing for some time, bone deterioration can occur in that area because there are no roots to stimulate the nerves. A dental bone graft restores volume and density in your jawbone so that dental implants can be placed later on.
